Separation of a UK airport from the airports authority
Challenge
As part of a regulatory exercise to create more competition across UK airports BAA were forced to divest/ separate three airports with the first being Gatwick airport.
The project focused on creating the strategy and then physically separating Gatwick airport from BAA
Approach
Create a strategy to divest the airport utilizing the legal documentation, customer strategy and leading divestment approaches
Create a 90 plan for the separation and agree with seller and buyer
Create a multi disciplined team from multiple suppliers and form a programme team to deliver the separation
Create joint governance between seller and buyer team
Manage commercial exercise between seller and buyer and suppliers
Outcome
Successfully separated Gatwick airport with no operational issues
Blueprint created to separate the next two airports
